Gene Winfield Teaches the Secrets of the Million Dollar Paint Job in Hands-On Class
Huntington Beach, California - March 27-29, 2009 - Auto
painting legend, Gene Winfield, together with House of Kolor founder
Jon Kosmoski and custom painting icon Rich Evans, will teach students
the coveted techniques of blended and candy paint jobs. This 3-day
class will be taught at Rich Evans' base of operations, Huntington
Beach Bodyworks.
The class, sponsored by College For Appraisers in Cypress, California,
gives students the opportunity to work side by side with the masters
and practice each technique they learn on the spot. Gene will teach
the correct proportions and timing for mixing paint, how to layer
and blend color, and how to work the finish to a flawless shine.
Each student will paint on practice pieces, then work with Gene
to paint a complete car.
"This is a truly unique opportunity," says Walter Miller, CEO of
College For Appraisers, "for custom car enthusiasts to spend a weekend
shoulder to shoulder with the experts, learning to do custom paint
right." Customizing is very expensive. The paints alone cost $1,200
to $1,400 and the costs of mistakes from inexperience are enormous.
"It's not every day," Miller continues, "that Gene Winfield makes
his formulas and techniques available. It's kind of a no-brainer
for anyone interested in custom painting; you can waste your time
and money on learning the hard way, or you can come learn the Winfield
way." This is the first time Gene's painting class is being offered
for the general public.
Tuition for the class is $875, and includes paint and the use of
all needed equipment such as coveralls, masks, and paint guns. Each
student will take home a fiberglass practice form created by Gene
Winfield and custom-painted in class. Each person will receive a
certification in the Winfield Method.
Gene "Windy" Winfield's career in custom auto painting spans more
than 60 years, during which he has earned his reputation as one
of the world's most prestigious customizers. His work is featured
in TV series like Star Trek and Get Smart, and films such as Back
to the Future I & II, Robocop, and Blade Runner. He travels
the world customizing and painting cars for up-scale customers;
his clients are as far-flung as Japan, Great Britain, Germany,
Norway and more.
Jon Kosmoski, the "godfather of custom paint," is the founder of
House of Kolor, and is responsible for the development of metallic
and pearl auto paints, and candy paint jobs. His work in developing
alternatives to problematic nitrocellulose lacquer and alkyd enamels
opened a new galaxy of possibilities for custom painters the world over.
Rich Evans, founder of Huntington Beach Bodyworks and designer of
Incubus custom wheels, is best known for his inimitable tattoo-style
detailing. Rich has been featured on SpellCasters, Monster Garage,
and Junkyard Wars.
